5 vanliga misstag vid användning av byggställningar – och hur du undviker dem

5 common mistakes when using scaffolding – and how to avoid them

Working at height always involves risks. That’s why it’s important that scaffolding is used correctly – both for safety and efficiency. Unfortunately, we often see private individuals and companies making the same mistakes over and over again. Here we list the five most common ones – and how you can easily avoid them.

1. Incorrect assembly

One of the most common mistakes is that the scaffolding is not assembled according to the instructions. This may involve missing parts, not using diagonal braces, or the scaffolding not being sufficiently anchored to the façade.

Solution:
Always follow the supplier’s assembly instructions. Use all components – even the ones that “just seem to get in the way”. At Scaffxpert we only sell original scaffolding from Scafom RUX, where safety is tested and certified.

2. Insufficient anchoring

Scaffolding that is not correctly anchored risks tipping over, especially in strong winds or if heavy loads are placed on one side.

Solution:
Always anchor according to the recommendations – usually every four metres in height and in every bay along the length. Use approved wall ties and tubes.

3. Incorrect loading

Many people think they can put as much material as they like on the platforms. But overloading is both common and dangerous.

Solution:
Always check the scaffold’s load class. Most façade scaffolds for tradespeople are class 3 (200 kg/m²). Adapt materials and working methods accordingly.

4. Lack of fall protection

A common mistake is not using guardrails, toe boards or personal fall protection equipment. Accidents on scaffolds often occur due to falls.

Solution:
Make sure every working platform has a top rail, mid rail and toe board. If needed – also use a safety harness and lifeline.

5. Poor ground conditions

A scaffold standing on soft ground, uneven stones or a sloping surface becomes unstable. This is one of the biggest risks for accidents.

Solution:
Always place the scaffold on a solid base. Use base plates and adjustable screw jacks. On soft ground – lay planks or scaffold beams to distribute the load.

Sammanfattning

By avoiding these five mistakes, you can increase both the safety and efficiency of your project. Remember that scaffolding is an investment in safety – not an area for compromise.
