The most common mistakes DIYers make with scaffolding

Scafom-RUX – a global leader in scaffolding Reading The most common mistakes DIYers make with scaffolding 2 minutes Next Do you need scaffolding or is a ladder enough?

Using scaffolding at home can feel straightforward, but many DIYers make small mistakes that can have major consequences for both safety and results. Here we list the most common mistakes and how to avoid them.

1. Wrong base

Many people erect scaffolding directly on grass or uneven ground without adjusting the base. This can make the scaffold unstable and dangerous.
Solution: Always use base plates and make sure the ground is level and stable.

2. No anchoring to the façade

A scaffold that is not anchored risks tipping over, especially if it is more than a couple of metres high.
Solution: Always anchor the scaffold to the wall with approved fixings.

3. Missing guardrails

Many people think “it’s only a couple of metres” and skip the guardrails. However, falls can occur even from low heights.
Solution: Always use guardrails and toe boards – safety first.

4. Overloading

DIYers often load too much material on the platforms. This increases the risk of collapse.
Solution: Follow the maximum load for your scaffold and distribute the weight evenly.

5. Poor planning

Building too little scaffolding and then having to “climb around” is common.
Solution: Plan the project in advance and make sure you have sufficient height and length on the scaffold.

6. Skipping the stair tower

Many people use a ladder to get up, which is both uncomfortable and unsafe.
Solution: Invest in a stair tower if the scaffold is higher – it makes the work both safer and smoother.

Sammanfattning

Scaffolding makes renovation much easier, but only if used correctly. Avoid the mistakes above and you’ll work both safely and efficiently.
